找茬

1.      Pick holes in sth

意思：找漏洞；挑毛病

例子：It was so difficult for him to pick holes in my speech.

    他很难从我的演讲中挑出毛病。

2.      Give somebody a hard time

意思：让人日子不好过，故意为难

例子：Jenny really gave Christine a hard time at the party.

珍妮在派对上故意为难了克莉丝汀。

3.      Find fault (with somebody / something)

意思：总会关注别人的错误，频繁地抱怨，这种人可以称为Fault-finder。

例子：She found fault with everything her son did.

不过她儿子做了什么，她总会找她儿子的茬。

4.      Pick on

意思：本意是“挑选”，还可以表示“找茬、招惹、捉弄”之类的意思。

例子：Rocky usually picks on the other boys who are weaker than him.

洛奇经常欺负比他弱小的男生。

5.      Nit-pick

意思：Nit-pick表示“挑剔”、“吹毛求疵”。Nit-picker也指“挑剔的人”。

例子：Kerry nit-picked about so many detail in the course of the photo shooting and threatened to cancel the job.

凯瑞对拍摄的非常多细节都挑剔了一番，扬言要取消这个工作。

没戏

1.      A long shot

意思：虽然机会渺茫，但有时还是值得一试；不大会成功的尝试。

例子：The chance to pass the examination may be a long shot.

通过考试的机会可能不大。

2.      Pie in the sky

意思：天上掉馅饼；不太可能发生的事。

例子：The possibility of loving me is all just pie in the sky.

爱上我简直天方夜谭。

3.      Be curtain (for sb.)

意思：本意是“窗帘”，还可以表示“大幕”、“被谁拉上了大幕”，暗示“完了”。

例子：When Peter saw the knife in my hand, he thought it was curtains for him.

    当彼特看到我手中的刀时，他就觉得自己完了。

4.      Not have a dog’s chance

意思：机会少得可怜；希望渺茫不如狗。一点儿机会都没有。

例子：Gabby hasn’t a dog’s chance of winning the competition.

    加比没有一点赢得竞赛的可能。

5.      Till the cows come home

意思：等牛回家，恐怕要多等等。表示“无限期”、“很久”，不管怎么努力，某事成不了。

例子：You can sleep till the cows come home but you still have to find a job after you o wake up.

你可以睡到猴年马月，但你起床之后还是得找工作。
